Meursault

Overview

Meursault is a renowned white wine appellation. Red wines make up a tiny proportion of the vineyards and the only worthy examples are bottled appellations of either Volnay or Blagny depending on their location near those appellations.

Meursault often have a more voluptuous style compared to their neighbours to the south but this does not come at the expense of finesse or elegance. Meursault can offer some of the most satisfying fine white Burgundy available.

Classification

Meursault has no Grand Cru vineyards but a plethora of very fine Premier Crus and a swathe of vineyard producing Cru-worthy village whites. The Premier Cru vineyards are located at the northern end of the commune bordering Volnay and at the southern end bordering Puligny-Montrachet. The latter has the lions’ share of the greater wines, and the Premier Crus selected here.
