The producer
Jean-Michel Gaunooux set up his own domaine in Meursault in 1990, after having made wine with his father since the 1970s. His current land holdings include 6 hectares in Meursault, Pommard, and Volnay. In Meursault, Gaunoux has three premier cru sites, of which we currently list the Perrieres. Vineyards are cultivated with minimal use of synthetics and high attention to detail; winemaking generally has a traditional although more hands-off approach.
The wine
Jean-Michel Gaunoux owns 0.57 hectares in the Perrieres premier cru. Arguably the finest land in Meursault, Perrieres has perfect east-southeast exposure, and is known for making the weightiest and longest lived of Meursaults. Winemaking generally has a traditional although more hands-off approach here and Gaunoux uses up to 30% new oak for the wine’s ageing which lasts up to 16 months.
