Maremma Toscana DOC

Overview

Maremma Toscana DOC was created in 2011 (previously it was an IGT) and covers a relatively wide area of vineyard land (around 800 hectares) and wine styles in the Grosseto province of Toscana. Red wine makes up the majority of wine production here, but the DOC also permits production of white, rose, and sweet wines. Maremma Toscana has rapidly gained recognition for producing high-quality wines, particularly those made from Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes.

Key Grape Varieties

Red wine from Maremma Rosso DOC must be made up of minimum 60% Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, or Ciliegiolo. The remaining 40% can be made up of any other red grape variety growing in the region.
