The producer

Based in Flagey, but with six Grand Cru holdings from Flagey to Gevrey, the triple-named estate has come into its own under current generation director Claire Fleurot and her talented young winemaker Thomas Colladot.

With a deep belief that great wines are created in the vineyard Coquard-Loison-Fleurot has a stellar collection of Burgundian terroir to work on with 0.18ha Grands Echezaux, 1.29ha Echezaux, 0.64ha Clos de Vougeot, 1.17ha Clos de la Roche, 0.17ha Clos St Denis and 0.32ha Charmes-Chambertin.

The style is still evolving but with a light extraction and a definite but delicate use of new oak that makes for elegant wines showing fruit purity that expresses their terroirs. Should we call this domaine a future star of Burgundy when the wines are already held in great respect? And are in great demand? Let’s just say it’s a star producer still on the rise.

The wine

The 2019 Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot Morey-Saint-Denis is a delightful Burgundy wine that showcases the elegance and complexity of the region. Crafted from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the renowned Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, this vintage offers a harmonious balance of red fruit flavours, subtle earthiness, and refined tannins. We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
