The producer

Situated in the heart of the renowned Côte de Nuits, the estate is known for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay offerings. With a history dating back to the late 19th century, the domaine has passed down through generations, combining traditional winemaking practices with a modern approach. The vineyards are carefully tended to, practicing sustainable viticulture to ensure the optimal expression of the grapes. Dom. Coquard Loison-Fleurot's wines, including their Bourgogne Rouge and expressions from prestigious appellations, consistently showcase a harmonious blend of elegance, complexity, and a true reflection of Burgundy's terroir.

The wine

A delightful and accessible expression of Pinot Noir that exemplifies the winemaker's expertise and the region's terroir. With a beautiful ruby red colour, this wine introduces itself with an inviting bouquet of red berries, such as raspberries and cherries, accompanied by subtle floral notes. On the palate, it unveils a harmonious balance between bright acidity and soft tannins, delivering flavours of ripe strawberries and a hint of spice. Despite its classification as a regional wine, it reflects the meticulous care given to the vines and the precision in winemaking, offering a genuine taste of Burgundian character. The 2019 Bourgogne Rouge is a testament to Dom. Coquard Loison-Fleurot's commitment to producing approachable yet nuanced wines that honour the essence of Burgundy.

We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
