The producer
Would there be a modern Rhone wine industry without Etienne Guigal? Founded in 1946 it has certainly been the success story for the region with holdings from Cote Rotie in the north through to Cotes-du Rhone in the south. Guigal sells over 4 million bottles a year!
Guigal made his reputation initially with stunning wines from Cote Rotie – which not only made his name but also, in a way, that of the whole appellation. This success allowed them to expand throughout the Rhone, buying and reviving old domaines and vineyards. Well-positioned vineyards in Condrieu was one such purchase and Condrieu La Doriane is a stunning, richer version of the classic Condrieu style which possesses an incredible ability to age.
The wine
La Doriane is Guigal’s luxury Condrieu cuvee and a stunning, richer version of the classic style with rich stone fruit intensity, round and bold texture, great finesse and minerality and an incredible ability to age. La Doriane comes from 35-year-old vines in the top five vineyard sites in the appellation and is vinified and matured entirely in new oak barrels for 12 months.
