The producer

Maison Agrapart & Fils, founded in 1894 by Arthur Agrapart in Avize, is a renowned grower Champagne producer in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. The estate spans 12 hectares, with vineyards primarily in grand cru villages like Avize, Oiry, Cramant, and Oger. Now managed by Pascal Agrapart and his son Ambroise, the house remains a récoltant-manipulant, meaning it exclusively uses its own grapes to produce its Champagnes.

Focusing on terroir-driven wines, Agrapart avoids chemical pesticides and herbicides, using natural farming techniques. The vineyards are made up of 62 parcels, mostly planted with Chardonnay, with some vines over 60 years old. Known for its minimalist winemaking approach, Agrapart ferments wines with indigenous yeasts and often ages them in large oak casks, bringing out the distinctive minerality of the region's chalky soils.

The wine

Agrapart & Fils "Terroirs" Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut NV is a non-vintage Champagne made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from grand cru vineyards in Avize, Oger, Cramant, and Oiry. This wine is known for its pure expression of the Côte des Blancs terroir, offering a precise, mineral-driven character due to the region’s chalky soils. Aged on lees and vinified with indigenous yeasts, it displays a refined balance between bright acidity and subtle richness. With low dosage, this Extra Brut style emphasizes freshness and elegant complexity, making it a favorite among Champagne enthusiasts seeking a terroir-focused, crisp Blanc de Blancs.

We choose our wines based on a range of criteria (see how we choose our wines) of which critic scores is just one. Rather than simply highlight the best score to promote a wine, our average critic score is calculated from the scores provided by several respected wine critics, who we follow for specific regions. They do not represent all critic scores and, wherever possible, we try and give more weight to more recent reviews. Where appropriate we consider market-based scores like Global Wine Score or Wine Searcher Average scores.

As a rule, we look to offer wines that achieve a 92/100 average critic score or better and frankly a lot of very good wines simply don’t make the cut. As a high-end provider we want to reflect that positioning in the quality of wines we offer. Such wines are only a tiny fraction of those generally on offer in the market. We believe that an average score is a more conservative and representative approach, but it is still subjective and only offered as a guide to our customers, who will (and should) do their own research. We will add individual critic scores to our website in the future.
