Robert Weil

Dr Robert Weil founded the original estate in the Kiedrich village in 1867. At the time he was professor of German at Sorbonne in Paris and was forced to return to Germany when the Franco-Prussian war started. The current generation in charge is Wilhelm Weil who took over 1987.

The Weil estate is widely recognised as being one of the finest in Germany. Today the family owns around 90 hectares of vineyards – which are only planted with Riesling – and are pioneers of sustainable farming in the Rheingau, including planting of green cover crops and no use of herbicides. The vineyards are steep and south-facing, and the main three are Klosterberg, Turmberg, and Grafenberg.
