Rioja Alta
Overview
The Alta sub covers all the western part of the Rioja region, with most of the vineyards situated south of the Ebro River. The topography and climate of Alta is quite like that of the Alavesa sub, with vineyards at higher altitudes – compared to Rioja Oriental – although Alta is slightly warmer than Alavesa due to the location slightly further from the Atlantic Ocean.
