Rioja Alavesa
Overview
Situated north of the Ebro River, Alavesa is the smallest and northernmost of Rioja’s subregions. Alavesa borders Rioja Alta to the southwest and Rioja Oriental to the southeast and is bordered in the north by the Cantabrian Mountain range. Generally, Alavesa is, along with Alta, considered to produce the best wines in the region, and the two sub regions are relatively similar in terms of soil and climate.
