Les Charmes Premier Cru

At the southern end of the commune and bordering Puligny Les Combettes, Charmes lies below the road for the entire length of Les Perrieres. One of the largest Premier Crus at 31ha, the slope flattens as in rolls down the hill and is split informally into upper (”dessus”) and lower (“dessous”) as the soil also changes down the hill.

Charmes-dessus, closer to Perrieres, is considered superior and the best wines invariably come from this section of the vineyard. The soft gradient allows for more warmth in the vineyard and the wines are usually more forward and extremely seductive from an earlier age, yet are still capable of ageing well.
