Felsina

The 470-ha Felsina estate is located northeast of Siena in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico denomination. Chianti Classico is the cornerstone of the estate’s production. There is an ancient tradition for Vin Santo production at Felsina – the composition of which has roughly a third of each of Malvasia and Trebbiano Toscana in the blend, and uniquely, and characterizing Felsina’s signature style, 1/3 of Sangiovese (the main grape for production of Chianti Classico).

After a rigorously selective harvest, the grape bunches are laid out on mats to dry until January/February the following year. The grapes are then pressed and the grape must fermented in 100 litre oak casks, and finally aged for seven years in caratelli. Both the 2001 and 2007 vintages are scored highly by both Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate.
