Felsina

Felsina. The Felsina estate was bought by Domenico Poggiali, a haulier from Ravena, in 1964, in order to indulge his passion for haunting. When realising the potential of the land, he, together with son Giuseppe, began expanding the vineyards and renewing the wine cellar. Felsina is located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southernmost end of the Chianti Classico zone, northeast of Siena, and the property covers 500 ha, 90 of which are under vine, with the rest being olive groves and woodland.

Gran Selezione ‘Colonia’ is a 100% Sangiovese from the Colonia vineyard which is surrounded by forest at the top of Poggio a Rancia. The first crop harvested was 1997 (from vines planted in 93) but only 2006 was the first vintage bottled. This is a powerful style of Chianti, epitomising the ripeness of the southern part of the Classico zone.
