Domaine Yves et Mathilde Gangloff

Yves Gangloff’s career in wine was one of chance – when visiting his painter brother in Ampuis – but a fortuitous one for lovers of Cote Rotie. Initially a grape grower, the estate was founded in 1982, when Yves and his wife, Mathilde, purchased 1 hectare in Cote Rotie. Later their holdings increased mostly in the cooler south of the appellation, and they eventually began making their own wine. Yves and Mathilde’s attention to detail in the vineyard and natural precision in winemaking resulted in wines that quickly gained an avid following. New oak is used very judiciously, and two cuvees are made each year – the La Barbarine which includes 8% Viognier, and the top cuvee La Sereine from 50+ year-old Syrah only.

The Gangloff cellar is in the heart of Condrieu, with vineyards in Condrieu, Cote Rotie, and St-Joseph. The 2.4 hectares of land in Cote Rotie are in the southern part of the appellation. These beautiful and elegant Cote Roties are adorned with art labels from Yves’ artist brother. There is also an excellent Condrieu and both white and red Saint Joseph in the northern style.
