Domaine la Soumade

Domaine la Soumade was founded in 1979 by Andre Romero, and by 1990 the entire production was sold in bottle. In 1996, son Frederic joined in 1996 his father after finishing studies in viticulture and oenology. The Romeros own 26 hectares in Rasteau, and 1 hectare in Gigondas. Grenache is the main grape variety and most of the vines are over 50 years old. In 2002, Bordeaux consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, started consulting and thus aided the Romeros in taking the wine production to an even higher level.

Robert Parker calls Andre Romero “the superstar of Rasteau” and the wines “drop-dead delicious”. Fleur de Confiance is 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvedre, with ageing in large Austrian oak barrels. Full bodied with intense red fruit concentration, Fleur de Confiance is one of the finest Rasteaus available, with its polished, velvety, round body and long finish.
