Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron

The highly reputed domaine of Jean-Jacques Confuron took a great leap forward when Sophie Meunier-Confuron and husband Alain Meunier took control in 1983. By 1990 the vineyard holdings had been converted to organic viticulture, with ploughing by horse, and also adopting the biodynamic lunar calendar for vineyard and winery work. The wines began to take on greater depth and clarity soon becoming one of Burgundy’s most highly regarded estates.

Their range – from stylish Cote-de-Nuits through to the almost-Grand Cru Vosne-Romanee ‘Les Beaux-Monts’ – show power without weight, all in all ethereal and elegant wines of great class. Their Les Chaboeufs from Nuits-Saint-Georges, for example, is great value.

They also produce one of the best Clos de Vougeot from 50-year-old vines in the very best part of the Clos, and the pinnacle of the range is a majestic but extremely refined Romanee-Saint-Vivant. These are seductive wines of restrained power, grace, and elegance.
