Domaine Huet

Founded in Vouvray by Victor Huet in 1928, and later managed by son Gaston Huet – who was mayor of Vouvray when it was granted AOC status in 1947 – from 1947 until 2002. Fast forward to 2003 when Chinese American businessman Anthony Hwang bought the estate which today is run by Jean-Bernard Berthome, a trusted employee at Huet since 1979.

35 hectares of vineyards – planted exclusively to Chenin Blanc – are spread over three sites: ‘Le Haut-Lieu’ which is the original 9 hectare estate vineyard, surrounding the house; ‘Le Clos du Bourg’ which was purchased by Gaston Huet in 1953 and is thought to be the oldest site in Vouvray dating back to the 8^th century; and finally 8 hectare ‘Le Mont’ was bought by Gaston in 1957, a south facing and stony vineyard site thought to produce the estate’s longest-lived, and arguably most famous wines.

Biodynamic farming has been employed in all vineyards since 1990 and the Huet estate was one of the first in the region to focus on single vineyard bottling. Wines are produced in a range of sweetness levels from bone dry to sweet. Moelleux is one of the sweetness levels and means ‘mellow’ – it is a medium sweet style with 45-55 g/l residual sugar.

Huet is an icon in the Vouvray region, and the wines – known for their incredibly long ageing potential – have great minerality and verve, even the richer styles are balanced by very high and invigorating acidity levels.
