Clos de Tart Grand Cru

7.53ha. Perhaps confusingly the vineyard and the estate are the one and the same … and it is the largest Grand Cru monopole in Burgundy. For several centuries the estate has remained undivided with winemaking and ageing facilities on site. Since 1141, the estate has had only four owners after a Cistercian order of nuns of the Abbaye de Tart, gave the vineyard its name.

Snuggled between Clos-des-Lambrays to the north and Bonnes-Mares to the south, the estate has a history of famous vintages but its modern history began when Sylvain Pitiot took over running the estate between 1995 until 2015. In that period, he is credited with significantly improving quality and vineyards at Clos des Tart. This renewal has had a further injection of life (and money) after the recent (2018) purchase by the Pinault family of Bordeaux’s Chateau Latour.
