Chateau Marquis d’Alseme

Chateau Marquis d’Alesme can trace its roots back to 1585. Over the centuries there has been a succession of owners and in 1938, the property is acquired by Edmond Ritz, whose grandson Jean-Luc Zuger inherits the estate years later (the Zuger family also owns Malescot St Exupery). In 2006, the estate is sold on to the Perrodo family (who also own Chateau Labegorce) and today daughter Nathalie is in charge. In 2015 a big renovation of the winery and cellar buildings was carried out – the new design is a blend of Chinese and classic French influences (Nathalie Perrodo is half Chinese half French) and is said to be worth a visit.

The 15 ha of vineyards have been farmed organically since 2016 and the Grand Vin is usually a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, with soupcons of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It matures for around 18 months, in 60% new barrique, before being send on the market.

This is very good Bordeaux at an agreeable price.
