Chateau Lafon-Rochet

The modern history of Lafon-Rochet starts in 1959, when the estate is acquired by the Tesseron family, of Cognac fame. The Tesseron family completely renovated the chateau and replanting of large parts of the vineyards. In 1999, Michel Tesseron took over the running of the property and he is the one who decided to change the classic design of the property and paint it a bright, sunny yellow – the labels changed, to a similar yellow theme, around the same time. In 2021 Lafon-Rochet was acquired by Jacky Lorenzetti, who also owns Chateaux Pedesclaux in Pauillac and d’Issan in Margaux.

The chateau has 40 hectares which are located at the southern end of Saint-Estephe, neighbouring Chateau Cos d’Estournel. The Grand Vin has 4^th Growth status and is typically a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc; it spends around nine months maturing in 50% new French oak barrels after which time it is transferred to older barrels for another nine months before bottling. On average close to 10,000 cases are produced of each vintage.

This is very good Bordeaux at an agreeable price.
